Rainbow of Flying Geese

It's been a while since I made any fabric envelopes. They were some of the first projects I worked on when I just started sewing a few years back. So simple and so pretty at the same time with any details you like to add. This latest envelope features my first ever attempt at the flying geese paper piecing pattern. When I bought a box of fat quarters in solid colours, I knew what I wanted to make right away. These colours are beautiful on their own without any complicated patterns, so flying geese seemed like a good idea.

I can always find some use for these kinds of envelopes or fabric folders. Carrying a notebook and pencils, a book that you like to read with you or maybe using it as a project bag. Have you heard of those? These are just any types of pouches or bags that you keep the project you are working on inside. Such a brilliant idea! I have just finished two project bags that I am already using for my knitting projects. Yep, I am knitting again.

When all the flying geese were finished, I really liked how these colourful triangles looked all together on linen. I had a moment of hesitation and was thinking of turning this patchwork into a mini. But I am so glad that I went with my original plan, because a mini is just a hanging on a wall. Right? You can only see it when you are nearby. But this fabric envelope can be anywhere - in my bag (well, it's still a nappy bag really), on a shelf, table, bedside table... Anywhere I choose to do a bit of sewing or knitting or reading. Depends on what I am going to keep inside.

I kind of like that I can use my own tutorials, because even though I keep stitching notes as I go, I tend to still lose them sometimes. But once a tutorial is written and published, I can access it any time anywhere.

Just a sneak peek at the process behind the scenes. All the geese were put together in blocks of four and then stitched all together. I had a couple of messed up blocks, and one of them I turned into a small zipper pouch that I showed you earlier. Nothing gets wasted here.
