Unexpected Inspirations

Do you think it's possible to find an inspiration for sewing in a loaf of bread? Is there really anything in bread that can inspire you?

I thought not and I was wrong. A while ago I baked this aromatic, fluffy pumpkin bread. Well, not really me,  my bread maker did. But still I had to cook the vibrant orange pumpkin puree, measure and put all the ingredients in the pan... You know the drill. So when I was getting the bread out of the machine, while it still was really hot, I thought that I needed an extra pair of hot pot holders. I don't know why this particular thought crossed my mind at this very minute.

I just let my imagination run wild for a while before I got lost in house chores again and forgot all about it until I went to bed that night. I could not sleep, all of a sudden I remembered the hot pot holders. In my mind I saw them not in pretty flowery prints but more in some kind of a county style. I disappeared in my sewing nook, it way past midnight but I didn't care. I rampaged through my fabric stash looking for that particular fat quarter with jars and bottles and pots on it and some prints to match it. I got lost in there for some time and this is what I came up with...

After I put all the prints together, I was able to fall asleep peacefully. I put this project in my "Future Projects" basket the next morning and only this week I finally got my hands on it and a set of new hot pot holders was born.

I changed Amy's original design a bit. The reason behind this is that I wanted a bit more protection for my thumbs, especially when turning the freshly baked bread out of the hot pan and because I can never follow instructions precisely.

Of course you can't have hot pot holders without some kind of a tag or a label. I have to admit, I am a bit addicted to my new "Handmade" stamp.

I am a big fan of frills, lace and ribbons. They make such a wonderful, pretty addition to anything you make.

I am in love with this new set of hot pot holders. I love the style and the choice of prints that was definitely inspired by the colour of the pumpkin bread. I am happy that once again I was brave enough to combine together absolutely different colours and patterns.

You never know where your next inspiration is going to come from. :-) Happy unexpected inspirations everybody! Larisa xo

  1. Beautiful - much to nice to use and get bits of sticky stuff on! Love the little handmade labels and especially how you have mounted them on a piece of the lining fabric.

  3. Well done putting together these fabrics - they work so well together but, if you're not confident about making up combinations then it was truly brave! You have a great eye, Larisa.

    1. Thank you, Dina! I am still learning and never feel 100% sure that the prints I am using are going to work together. Anything more that two prints is a challenge for me but I truly enjoy it.

    1. That's nice! I love my bread maker and use it a lot for making breads, dough for sweet rolls, dough for dumplings/pasta... It's a great thing to have in the kitchen.

    1. Thank you very much! Every time I look at my work, I see some flaws and believe that work of others looks much more professional and perfect. Like for example the bright pink quilt you finished recently. I suppose it's natural for us crafters to see mistakes in our own work only and judge it too much. :-)
